I asked the dealer to press for the newest version possible of the 3V 5.4L, it didn't seem like it was going to be an issue to get one

I'm sure that now, you'ld just be happy to have it back and everything working / purring like it was. What an ordeal!
I am looking forward to getting my truck back. I thought about getting a new F150 even, but I do love this truck.

You see by serving notice on the attorney by name, they now can have their bar licensed placed on the line if it is determined later on that there was purposefull intent to falsify any insurance related document.
I will be filing a complaint with the Insurance Commissioner, for sure. I think I would have gotten action sooner if I had my attorney rattle off a letter. If I ever go through something like this again, I will totally go that route.

Now that I'm getting what I want, I am content. But, I still want to hold the shady adjuster accountable along with the BS shops he was covering for. They give mechanic and collision shops a bad name, and I'd like to try to make sure they aren't in the position to keep screwing people over.

I went to pick up my truck yesterday and got a call en route. "I hope you aren't on your way to pick your truck up..."
My reman engine started to knock during their post-install check list. They said LKQ built this one "special" for me, and had the latest timing components and cam phasers, but if it were a Ford engine they'd be pulling it out for sure.

They have a "new" reman on its way to the dealership now and the latest engine is being pulled back out to be replaced.

Swazo, this is just a nightmare that goes on and on for you. Do you even remember what it was like to drive your truck? In trying to find something comforting to say, I dug deep and concluded that when this is over you will have used up at least a decade of bad mojo. Clear sailing ahead, chum!

I popped into the dealership to see what was new with the truck. They're tearing it down to inspect the cams and it's phasers and bearing journals. Also the timing components that can be seen from the valve covers removed. Best case scenario is it's some wheel that works with the phaser, and it's just a matter of swapping them out and it's good to go. Worst case is something has worn enough to contaminate the oil or the cam journals already show some abnormal wear, and the engine is replaced. They'll know what's wrong tonight and the proper course of action to take, but LKQ and the insurance company approving it might take a few days of back and forth phone calls. At this point, I'm just glad the dealership is making sure things are 100% right and the engine will have a warranty. When I do get it back, when ever that may be, it's going to be back to normal....or better than before. At least, that's what I've told myself to stay sane.

I kind of remember what it was like to drive my truck. As long as mother nature has taken note, I could use an epic trout, salmon, mule deer and elk season.

Wow swazo, what an ordeal. I must say you are a better man then me as i would have went to the first repair shop to meet the adjuster and the shop manager with a 20 pound sledge hammer.
Of course i would be in jail with no truck but.......
Hope this is the end, it sure sounds like it will be, keep us posted and good luck

Thanks dirtrider.

I was driving past the dealership friday, I hadn't heard from them since my last post, so I thought I'd just drop in on them. My truck happened to be done! The service manager went over the $500 in parts that they replaced because of the insurance company's authorized hole in the wall mechanic shop from the exterior of the engine, the 100 lbs. of parts from the 1st LKQ engine that were defective and being sent back as proof to the unbelieving LKQ headquarters and the latest things they had done to the engine to make it stop knocking/ticking.

The engine was shipped without valve covers, so the little bird cage on the front of the phaser was bent and causing a noise. They replaced the chain tensioners and they also found the #7 cylinder's COP was broken and the plug was causing a misfire. He then pointed out that the mechanic was swearing he couldn't get it to "quiet up" until he pulled his F150 into the bay next to it to compare them side by side. Since I don't have the fan shroud in there (I was starting the prep work when their engine started to knock to swap over to a Saleen radiator, spal e-fans w/ controller, a better than oem trans cooler w/ e-fan with upgraded trans lines and fittings) and the fender liners, the service manager thinks that's why it's louder than even his truck.

Since driving it for the last 2 days, it sounds like a phaser type knock upon initial start-up for 1-2 seconds and the rest of the time it sounds like a 5.4L diesel. If it were consistent, I could learn to live with it, but it clears up with a throttle blip and then when the engine establishes idle again or when driving it sets at a load level/throttle level....the diesel sound comes back. My truck has never sounded like this and I have proof, luckily I have a decent amount of video of before and after clips of interior and exterior footage for a e.man to long tube header swap from last summer, just a few months before the accident.

I'll put the fender liners back in the truck today, and take the truck back to the dealer tomorrow to see if they'll stick to their previous stance.

I took it in Monday, they're still diagnosing the knock and the humming/harmonic front-end noise....

I went in to the dealership to find they found theyre getting steady oil pressure when the engine is cold or hot, but its clearly having issues with the phasers. The tech said its by far the loudest he's ever heard.

They also found the p.side wheel bearing was bad, which was causing the noise I was hearing.

They're fearful LKQ aren't going to want to fix noisey, but still functional phasers because the oil pressure is good...despite the diesel sound.

I asked for a turbo, since if I'm going to have a diesel......its gotta be a turbo. Not sure they found the humor in my joke....

I'm not the kind of guy that goes running to the Lawyer every chance i get.
But man.....there is a time to get legal representation.
They will never bring your truck back to what it once was, unless somebody makes them fix it properly or write it off.

I would be suing, but the dealership is fixing the issues and are able to hold the insurance company accountable. Suing at this point won't fix my truck faster, which is what I want, not to total it out. If my truck can be saved, I want to let it be.

They are tearing into this engine, to verify the correct generation of phasers and supporting components were used in the building of this engine. Outside of the phaser noise, this engine is impressive in comparison to even my original engine, power wise.

They ended up replacing both phasers and some misc parts and are reassembling it now.

This has been a stressful issue, but I have test driven brand new pony cars to death and every other vehicle I thought Id rather have.....and I wouldn't. I just want my truck back and I've got a good feeling I will very soon AND in the shape I expect it to be in.

It's back together and running smooth.

Now its down to some minor issues like the wheel bearing and replacing the Moog castle nut on the motorcraft balljoint that needs a lock nut (no cotter pin hole) and it should be good to go.
