Post 2000 Chevy Engines: Lots more power

For 2000 the Chevy Engines are getting more hp. The 4.8L goes from 255hp to 270hp, the 5.3L goes from 270hp 315tq to 285hp 325tq, and the 6.0 goes from 300hp to 325hp, the 6.6L Deisel gets 300hp and 520tq, and the 8.1L gets 340hp 450tq. Looks like us Ford guys are in a lot of trouble.

well if you are svt'd, your not in any trouble, but it sounds like they are going to get in the diesel business, which they are not right now. those motors look like they might make a 3/4ton run like a gasser.

Yeah, they can have more horsepower. Who cars, the 4.6 in 2000 will still whomp on the 4.8 in durability and acceleration. Who knows, Ford might have a few tricks up their sleave also. Id Chevy has more hp, Ford still has better looks, and alot of long, durable, strong engines!

The 8.1L is a v-8 to replace the 454, which is already way stronger than the ford V-10, I've seen pictures, it looks and sounds pretty bad.

Ford already has Chevy beat. The 5.3 now only puts out 180hp at the rear wheel. The 5.4 for 99' puts out 210hp at the rear wheel. If the hp is not on the pavement, it's not doing any good.

only ford trucks can do this
not chevy trucks

Fast Triton,

You should be a better sport about the competition. It makes us ford guys look bad. Chevy is producing a great series of engines, and has been for many years. Please don't try to tell me that your 4.6 can beat a 5.3 chevy. It won't! It won't beat a 4.8 either. I've driven them, and I've driven all of the new Fords. I know what they all drive like. (except the lightning) So do us Ford fans a favor, save the I beat a 5.3 chevy with a ford 4.6 story for someone the dumb enough to believe it.

Chris

Obviously, by my signature you know I'm a Ford man, but I do know my Chevy's too.

The Chevy's numbers may indeed be up for 2000, but it means nothing. Think about it, if either Ford or GM could produce a better engine (similar size) than the other guy, don't you think they would?
Truck trends article comparing Ford, Chevy and Dodge illustrates this perfectly.
The 5.4 is the eqaul of the 5.3 and the 4.8 is equal to the 4.6 (Dodge does have to get it's act together however).
No one manufacturer has some secret formula to turn out a better motor than the competition and there have been little break thru technological advances since internal comb. engines hit the market.
That all said, the Ford is by a long shot the best truck out there. GM has always had good powerplants packed into the most poorly built cars/trucks money can buy.
Sorry for being so long winded.

Oh, whats Danthemans user name now?

Chris, Dont be telling me that I am making us Ford Owners look bad. we are making chevy owners look bad with our kick butt trucks. If you got some Chevy owner to impress, go ahead. Its just a truck.

P.S,
my truck almost puts out what a Chevy 5.3 does at the rear wheel. Check out truck trends article. they put out 184hp at the rw. While mine puts anywhere from 175-180rwhp.
