replaced coil pack on 2001 ford f-150 ,the spark plug had blown out of the port and broken the orginal coil pack ,had to remove the rh fuel rail ,after reinstalling the truck will not start

 

The 01's didn't use coil packs.

 

did you time sert the spark plug hole? if not expect it to blow again. Turns over but will not start? check the fuel pressure first ..

 

I bet there's other unproperly torqued spark plugs...

That would be a first. Are you sure ? I'd have to see a pic. In 2000 (half way thru) they went from Packs to COP systems. The 4six anyway.

 

Also in 2001, the 4.6L's received the same PI heads as the 99 5.4L's.

 

People think there COP's are PAC's 2000+ you got COP's.. Coil on plugs are individule on each plug. PAC's are multiple easy to spot the difference PAC's have traditional spark plug wires that are clearly visable on the top of the engine. COP engines dont have wires..

 

Brew, I think the OP has COPs. He said that it broke after the spark plug blew out of the hole, which is common on the COPs, but would be pretty unusual for the coil packs. Since he disconnected the fuel rail, I'd probably start there, like another poster said, checking fuel pressure, wiring to the injectors, etc.

 

Yes mine has the individual coil over plugs. Not wires. I kinda wish it did have wires.

Nope, jethat explained it.

Packs = (Control) < More than 1 cylinder, - a pack of.
CoilOnPlug = (Dedicated) - 1 coil per cylinder.

 

Thanks man im glad i got that straightend out...so my truck has COPs. My buddies 99 f150 4x4 4.6 has wires. Is there really any advantage to the COPs or the wires ?? oh and my truck does have the PI heads i always brag to my buddie who has the 99 that i got about 13 hp on him and 28 ft lbs not that thats much but anyway lol.

 

Heard the coil packs go bad around 93-96K on the 4.6L, any truth to this?

 

not necessarily. IF you really have coil PACK not COP's as was just explained above.. The wires wear out but the coils themselves can last as long as they last.
