Air in cooling system

Can anyone tell me how to get the air out of my cooling system? 2004 F-150 FX-4 5.4 engine. Changed coolant the other day, now my temp gauge fluctuates from 1/4 mark to 1/2 mark. Someone here said most likely air in system but did not go into detail on how to get it out. Help please! Thanks

Try running it with the rad cap off. Take it around the block a couple of times. Enough to get it to full operating temp. With no pressure in the system, the air bubbles should work their way out.

I always just run it with the cap off until the thermostat opens.

Another trick I always use is to remove the hose that comes off the front of the intake and runs to the heater core. Just keep an eye on the intake and add your water until it starts to run out that tube. Reinstall the hose and top off. Then do the run with the cap off thing...although that's not as effective as it is on a vehicle that still has a cap actually on the radiator.
