Boring out rebuilt engine.

I haven't ever heard what the average size people bore out their 5.4l (330 or so) to after they need a rebuild.

I have no need for a rebuild anytime soon, but I was just wondering, because I'm about to come into alot of money and want to know if boring the 5.4 to something close to a 6.2, going to call a machine shop after work today.

If I'm confusing you, here's an example, Chevys 350 is usually bored out to the 383 stroker.
Ford equivalent = ?

Thanks all!

You would need a stroker kit to bring close to the 6.2

Most 5.4s only go .020 or .030 over.
I know a guy with a 5.4 aluminum block that is bored and sleeved out to a 6.0
But I think he paid close to 10K for his short block.

I'm not sure about boring out engines. You only gain a small amount in displacement and power. Stroker kits gain more in both categories and give that wicked loping sound.

Yes you make more power with a stroker kit,but they are very expensive.
The wicked loping sound comes from a high performance cam.
Not a stroker crank.

And that wicked loping sound is most often the sound of an engine that proves to be one sorry POS to have to drive in traffic or on a road trip.

Boring engines out is old school - the new engines don't have enough wall thickness to bore it significantly - there's enough meat there to clean up a scored cylinder but not much more. You might be able to make a 4.6 close to a 4.7, but that's about it.
