50 mpg in the 1950's!
I used to work with a guy who said a friend of his bought a car in the 1950's that got 50 mpg. Apparently it was equipped with an experimental carburator, and the people responsible for that carburator made him give it back. If the technology for 50 mpg were available in the 1950's, I bet we could get pretty good mpg these days. Does anyone have any similar experiences, or know anyone who has? I felt obligated to post on here, since we drive vehicles with some of the worst mpg.

Sounds quite possible with a 4 banger in the Cutlass.
Yeah those 100 mile per gallon carbs worked really good until somebody had to mention thermal dynamics. So far, nobody has been able to change the laws of physics but they keep trying...kinda like running yer engine on water.

Yeah I drove an MG once, pretty fun car. I didn't know the gas mileage on them is that good. I guess it should be at about the third the weight of my truck.
