My 2002 F150 4.6L Eng Makes An Intermittent Gurgling Noise

Hi All - My engine is making an intermittent gurgling sound and the RPM's fluctuate during this event. It's like the engine surges and only seems to happen at stops or under 5 miles per hour. Not sure it's related but I've noticed the my Overdrive Light is flashing intermittently as well. My truck has only 84,201 miles on it, which is not bad for a 2002. I am also running a K & N FIPK Air Filter System. All help would be appreciated - Scotty

The OD light flashing is indicating a stored fault code. Most off the shelf scanners cant read those particular trans dtc's which means you may need to go to a ford/shop to get the codes read. It sounds like it may be related to whatever noise you are hearing, being it flashing during that time so go get it checked out immediately.

Clean the MAF, since that can be related to the converter/trans. Plus you have oiled filter media. That alone can compromise the MAF wires.

Gurgling? Does this occur inside the cab and under the dash or in the engine compartment?

Inside the cab would indicate air in the coolant system.

Under the hood would indicate the PCV system. Like the valve.

Unless you have a bad head gasket. I doubt it.
