best upgrades for an '08 4.6

I purchased my truck (2nd owner) just before Christmas. I was wanting the 5.4, but could find a better deal than the one I got with the 4.6. So im stuck with it for now.

So my question is, what is the opinion on upgrades? The previous owner had the exhaust system upgraded, not sure how extensive the upgrade was but I do know that its SI/DO (Im new to this so I think that means single in/ dual out). Is that a sufficient upgrade or should I do more to the exhaust?

Everything else appears to be standard. So in familiarizing myself with it, I noticed that Ford decided to "choke" the intake. It starts just inside the fender well at 2" and immediately expands to 3". Now I don't know as much as most about performance, but I do know more air equals more HP, right? So I removed the "choke tube" and made my own that's 3" from the start. Bad idea?

Next, some thoughts on a programmer....bullydog, superchips, etc. Worth it? What brand? And also a throttle body upgrade, worth it?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Look up the GOTTS mod for the intake mod. As for exhaust, the only way to see noticable performance will be a si/so. And for tuners, look on the personal classifieds on here.

Thanks for the info! I looked up the gotta mod and that's basically what I did but didn't have to purchase anything due to have scrap parts laying around my shop. Its a noticeable power increase at higher rpms and sounds great! Ill have to research the exhaust due to not have much knowledge about it. I have another question, on the intake tube leading to the TB, there is another black banana shaped tube connected to it. What is it and can it be removed? It seems like it could be a restriction, but idk.

From a reliability stand point the 4.6 2v is the better engine then the 5.4 3v or 4.6 3v. May not have as much power but I'd rather have the 4.6 in that year of truck. There are not many mods that will make that engine come alive.. Super charger..

I don't expect ill drop $4-6k on a supercharger! Lol! Ill more than likely "keep it simple" until I get a later model with a 5.4 or whatever else has come out by then

Im leaning more towards a SCT with a Troyer tune, the general response is that they're the best. And will a fan actually increase power?

That "banana shaped tube" is useless as well. I think there is a thread somewhere called "cheap mods" or something like that. That will tell you what to do with that banana tube...
