Thanks for the reply
I spoke with another dealership mgr and mechanic friend. Both said cat should be replaced under warranty d/t bad injector and plug in same cylinder as bad injector too. I think I'll hold off on full tune up though on my dime since this is not really due until 100K.

Ford has come back stating that the 100,000 mile plug change should be done at 65,000. Personally, I would not go beyound 75,000 or so. They usually show wear on the electrodes by then and the gap is getting so wide that it puts extra strain on the COPs to fire.

I would agree. However, I'm trying to separate the two issues of whether the truck is running rough d/t the bad injector and it's resultant damage to the engine and components (likely fouled plug and cat) which would be covered under warranty or it's due for a tune up and new plugs.

i just replaced my cat because of two misfires. i checked the plugs and they are like brand new with wet fuel on them. i replaced the COPs just waiting for the new cat to be put on, so i can check those two plugs to see if their even firing.

when i asked the dealer if those two injectors could be replaced under this warranty he said they would run tests on the injectors to first see if they were bad. if they were yes and the plugs would be replaced as well. if they were not bad, then i would owe the dealer all the fees to run the tests.

5.4 2005 Leaking injector

New Member and found this forum while searching white smoke hard starting and rough idle. Thanks for the tips on the bulletin, dealer played dumb in the initial conversations. Ford is replacing one at their cost, will be doing the others as a safety measure.

Keep us posted on how things turn out, and if the cats or any other components were ruined because of bad injector.

Had the same thing happen to my KR about a year ago. Started with hard to start when engine is warm. Finally the CEL came on and started to sputter. Dealer said that it was a bad Cat. I asked them to check the injectors and found one stuck open. Had to fight with Ford to get them to replace Cat on their dime. Drove fine up until about a month ago. While having my oil changed, I had the dealer check the injectors which he said were fine. I told him to document it so If I have another mechanic find bad injectors it's his butt and will be more than willing to do that annoying survey.

No, this specifically applies to 05. ALL 5.4's in F-150's starting in 04 are 3v. Get an 09 so you get the 6 speed tranny and the updated heads with 1 piece plugs.

5.4 Leaking injectors

Well in the end it was a stuck open injector. Ford replaced one injector and fluids under there program no charge including towing.

Truck now has a small bit of white smoke from the tailpipe in the morning for a few seconds now when I start, not sure exactly when this started but I just noticed it. Also seems to shake a small bit now at traffic lights while waiting. just a faint shaking but enough to feel it.

This thread isn't for PCV issues, it's for the injector issues.

What Years?

So if the 3v engine is in the 05-08 models, do all 3v engines have this potential issue, or is it only the 05 models?
