Save some for me brew I'll be right over To my knowledge a W code has always been a Romeo and a Windsor is a 6. Are you sure its the original engine? No one could ever explain why Ford used a W for Romeo when it would make sense to use it for a Windsor....Maybe thats why, because it made sense.. Now I really know why I retired.

Yes that is exactly right. The PI heads were available in 99, BUT truck was not PI until MY 2001. You can get 99 up PI heads and install them on ANY model year block truck or car even Windsor or Romeo heads will interchange on Windsor or Romeo blocks. But you will have to use a 2001 up truck PI intake or get the intake adapter gaskets to use the pre PI 97-2000 truck intake on PI heads. As JMC says the intake and exhaust manifolds both pre PI and PI will fit on either PI or pre PI heads. Windsor is a 6 code and Romeo is a W. So much for simplicity.

The simple answer is yes. If you know enough about the engines.....
You will have to contend with a number of obstacles. The throttle body faces the passenger side and the truck faces forward. Not sure about the oil pan. You will encounter the similar wiring issues as if using a 5.4. I would post this question in the engine forum.

It will physically fit, but it would be a very complicated and expensive swap. The 302 will not bolt to your transmission and the electronics are not compatible.

Hello, will a 4.6 W from a 08 Crown Vic work ok as a drop in replacement for the 4.6 W in my 03 F-150? I will use my intake manifold, maybe change oil pans?
