freeze plugs and engine temp sensor

Okay, not only new to the forum but new to Fords as well(forgive the sin of driving brand X instead of Ford). My dad is having problems with his truck, 1995 F150 2wd automatic california emissions truck. He is leaking water seems to be on the drivers side. It only leaks when it is running, he has ruled out radiator hoses and the water pump, the question is how many freeze plugs are on his engine and how many on each side? second issue is that his temperature gauge is now dead, where is the sending unit for the engine temp sensor located and what is involved to replace it? Thanks in advance for your help and I apologize for trespassing into Ford country.

For someone to help, you will need to tell which engine you have.
