So, while working on the truck tonight, I raised the hood to be greeted by this awful sound I can't even describe. Turned out to be the PVC valve. Well, I just happened to have a brand new one sitting in the cabinet that I never used. But when I took it out of the box, it was slightly different. This one is metal vs the plastic stock one, and just a tiny bit shorter. All the diameters are the same so it fit the hose and the valve cover grommet just fine. I asked for it for my truck back when I bought it, just never used it or compared it to the stocker.

Is this the right one for my truck?? Old one I just took out says EV-233, and that's it. It seems to work just fine though!

And what valve were you running mister ??? Be honest now lol. Factory valves don't usually sound off that.
Yea, I just listened to a lecture on the importance of Crankcase Ventilation Systems. Did you know Ford has it in the maintenance section (Workshop Manual). And they suggest that you take the vehicle in to change that out ?

I didn't, -until the other day. I believe it was under - what needs servicing @ 60,000 miles.
Keeping a good valve in her will definitely enhance longevity to the gaskets and well, over all internal operation. That littler sucker could cost you engine as well via long term neglect.
Get the right valve for it and shake it, - compare it to the one making the noise. - BIG difference. The engines need to breath without restriction, -the only valves I've seen with the RIGHT margins to support that is of course - The OEM Motorcraft.

Mine still had the stock one in it. I know, bad on me. But like said above, what goes bad in them?? It's just a little check ball rattling around. Shaking my old one sounded just like the new one...thus the reason the new one never got put in. Until I caught it as the source of this noise I'd been hearing.

Don't throw that old valve out. If it's an EV Motorcraft OEM making that noise, I might know someone that will buy that off yuh lol. Seriously! No one has been able to come close to plugging those up excerpt in sub-zero testing. I can't recall how they did that, but if yours was plugged enough to play a tune, - that will be of interest to a select few.

So I stopped by Oreilly's this morning, picked up a new EV233, pulled the old one out and the PCV valve they gave me had an elbow on it - the current buzzing one doesn't have an elbow. After calling them back I was told Ford must've changed the application because the correct valve is now the EV238. Anyways, the EV238 will be here in the morning. Shoot me a pm on where I should send this thing.

EV251 = 4.2L
EV233 = 4.6L
EV238 = 5.4L

Yeah its humming/buzzing pretty good. I did the plugs and coils a couple weeks ago and was a little worried this sound was coming from a loose plug but I knew I torqued em all to 28 lbs/ft. After taking a closer look the sound is definitely coming from the pcv valve. I can still blow through it though. Just can hear that buzzing when its idleing. I'll hang on to it for you.
So the EV 238 valve came in, I put it in and the buzzing is gone!
Kinda weird though the stock # on the part is the same as the original one in there - EV233. But when ordering it and on the box it says EV238.....
Jbrew - just let me know where the old one is going. Don't worry about a prepaid box. The information you provide on here well exceeds the value of a used pcv valve and the cost of mailing this thing away.

I need a PVC for my f-150.. Went to the dealer here man they are absolute crooks I really need to find a source for Motorcraft parts. Local dealer wants $15 for a freaking PVC valve that I find online for $5 but that source has a $10 minimum shipping charge. I can get after market ones for $2. The Ford parts situation here in Utah is absolutely intolerable.

I cant even find the Motorcraft pvc at rock auto. O'rilleys is just coming here they bought out checker but they haven't yet started stocking Motorcraft. At least not the pvc I need. No way am i gonna pay $15 for that part. I replaced the 2 heater core hoses while I had my engine out dealer part only. $250. I'm starting to hate the dealer(s) here.
