01 5.4 acting up?

01 5.4 acting up?

I have a 2001 screw 125,000 mi with a 5.4 duals and a airforce 1 intake. Sometime when driving in light throttle in 1-2 gear when truck upshifts it starts to run rough feels and sounds like your lugging it if it were a manual. I will do this sometimes in 1 gear from a stop also sometime cruizing down the highway at 60. When it is doing this if you give it throttle past 1/3 to 1/2 it will go to 3000 rpms and not lugg just accelarate. Very rare it has waned to keep going when coming to a stop like the torque conv. doesnt want to disengage. Any thoughts???

also replaced fuel filter, plugs, pcv, and cleaned the tb at 100,000.Tranny maintance done every 30,000 since new

I have been having the same problem too. Its seems to clear up as soon as i hit 2000rpm. An i have changed the same thing plugs(put motorcraft back in)fuel filter, cleaned MAF, and run injector cleaner, still no help. So i took it to dealer today they said it was the mass air flow sensor acting up ($260 part) .
All i had them do was check it today, but when i picked it up the problem has went away, they didn't reflash or anything. So going to see if it does it tomorrow, then worry about MAF.

Anyone know if MAF in a 06 5.4l would be the same, have a freind with totaled truck , going to robb it .

Have you changed COP's ? My 2001 Screw was acting the same way around 98,000 miles . It was a couple of bad COP's . I replaced plugs,all 8 COP's and all 8 Injectors . Truck runs like new and has 123,000 .

Kool, Thats the only thing i havn't changed, were did you buy yours at i know the dealers are to high, and the aftermarket ones are too right now for me. Thanks for the reply

rajuncajun, you better get a tune on that 3 valve before you do some damage (if you haven't already)

Hi tarajerame, what do you mean "tune"? I have custom tune from Troyer, and have had it on the truck sence it had 10000miles on her. Has ran fine till it got 72000. The truck will run fine anthing over 2000rpm. Thnks again for reply

COPS:

2v engines: DG508
3v engines: DG511

Search Ebay and buy them from Global or Uneek. DG508's are about $80/set, DG511's are about $125 a set.
