Got an oil leak..

I've been getting oil down on my starter for awhile now hasn't really been a concern because it hasnt been a bad enough leak to where it hits the ground until recently.. Now I've read that leaking in that spot means either an intake or a head gasket leak. I'm really not in the mood to tear my engine apart so I'm wondering if it could be something else or If I'm looking at intake removal and or head gasket and that's it..

Yea, your going to have to find where it's coming from for sure. IMO, -I'm afraid it's bad news, most likely, back corner of the passenger side head. = Head gasket.

That would suck.

Sure it's not dirty coolant your seeing?

Yea, slide your hand down around the rear outside corner of the head. If it's covered in oil, it's the gasket. Fords have that "burr" problem and that's the spot where the evidence shows.

Well I checked it and yes its wet at the corner of the head. Gonna have to think about this for awhile. Not happy about it.. I'll have to consider options.

Have to make sure it's not the valve cover gasket as well, -I doubt it.

Are you by chance very lucky lol.

It really feels like its coming out of the head gasket. I'm 95% sure thats where its leaking from. Feels dry below the cam cover.. Maybe I'll do some upgrading if I do it. Or maybe I'll sell it and get a lower miles newer one. I have to think about it.I think I could get by until spring. It does seem to be gettin worse though.

I've heard of people trying additives to slow it down and even Permatex High heat w/copper on the outside.

Not sure I would try either one. Well, maybe the Permatex on the outside if I was in a predicament where I couldn't work on her for awhile, that is good stuff.

If it got to bad i have other options. I aint gonna put nothing in there except oil. I noticed it several months ago. now its to the point that I have several dime sized oil spots on the drive way. I'm not to worried about it becoming worse but like i said if it does I can drive other stuff. Big project and I really dont want to do it.. I have to think about it.

Maybe i'll find some 03 heads. with more threads and all. Have them fixed up ported and stuff. Or maybe i'll find a whole engine out of an 03.. Already looked an theres some in the junk yard with low miles, Might be easier just to swap out the engine. Only a grand or so for an engine.. I could fix this one on a stand and sell it..

That link below your post leads to a photobucket page titled '01xltranger 4x4'. Maybe the link got screwed up. Nice looking 01 ranger though!
