oil leaking from crank pulley

i have been noticing lately that my crank pulley has been lightly coated in oil. and if the truck sat for a while a little pool of oil would form inside the recess of the pulley. so when i changed my oil the other day i decided to take the bolt out and when i did i notice that the rubber seal that was around the bolt was all chewed up. Is this something i can fix with some gasket maker or some RTV. is there maybe something deeper that i should be looking at?.

Two areas it can leak around the crank damper. One is the crank seal which is pressed into the front cover behind the damper. The other area is at the crankshaft keyway. You can see both of these with the damper removed. What you are seeing that looks like a rubber seal around the bolt is actually RTV. When the damper is removed for any reason or when originally installed at the factory a small dab of RTV has to be applied in the keyway slot on the damper just before installing the damper. This prevents any oil from migrating though the keyway to the outside of the engine and leaking. You can remove the damper with a puller and check or replace the seal and or just clean up the damper key slot and reinstall some black RTV the reinstall the damper. Either fix is fairly easy. Good luck
