Where do you think the sound is coming from? I dont know if this is your problem but on my 02 5.4L I had a slight ticking noise coming from the passenger side. I thought it could have been an exhaust leak from the manifold but it actually turns out that it was from a spark plug that eventually blew out of the head.

The threads stripped out of the head being that it is aluminum and the compression shot the plug right out of the head taking out the coil aswell. It is a pain in the arse having to fix this problem but luckily I know a former Ford mechanic who lent me the proper tool to repair this. The repair is drilling out the head and puting in a threaded insert similar to a helicoil. My Ford dealership quoted me $700 to repair the stripped head or $3000 for a new head.

In the end it cost me about $130 to purchase a new plug and coil and a box of donuts for the guys in the shop. So if this is your problem I hope that this helps and you dont have to go through the B.S I did and you can catch it in time and hopefully getter fixed before it goes boom
