Another Ford engine failure

Hi all,
I used my 'friends' truck to run some errands and lo and behold, the 90,000 mile engine just snapped and tossed a rod. Well, the friend wants me to buy him a NEW engine for his truck.
I don't know what type of engine it is or where to get one yet. Can somebody
figure out the VIN. code so Ill know what to buy the sob.
1FTRX18W8YNA91728 is the number. I do know its a 2000 model F150.
Thanks for your help.
Jay

First thing I checked. Never lost oil pressure or got hot. No warning at all, no tic, rattle, just KNOCK KNOCK BLAM. Like a rod bolt snapped or a timing chain snapped and found itself in a bad spot.

So if you were just cruising along and not doing anything to abuse it i would say you dont owe him anything. It broke cause he didnt take care of it. But if you were ragging on it and beatin it up then you should fix it.

you may think it had good oil pressure and the gauge may have read good but....in reality the oil pressure gauge is really just an on/off gauge that reads good at 5psi of oil pressure. Many things could have caused this...ask your friend for service records before you buy him an engine....if the delership can do it you can too!

I dont abuse other peoples stuff. My stuff is different.
I would gladly buy him a new engine and he could have it installed, but,
he either wants me to buy his 2000 f150 for 11,000 or the new engine installed.
X friend

Its impossible to prove-one way or the other what the driver was doing at the time of failure so he could SAY what ever. At the same time its impossible to totally prove abuse. Possibly an engine tear down could prove a part failure. Me I'd have that motor tore down if I wasn't beating it..

take a sample of engine oil and send it for oil analysis. that should tell you how well it was maintained.
