PCV Valve

Newbie here,
It's always the easy things that get me in trouble. I need to replcae the PCV valve in my '99 4.6. It is in the drivers side valve cover. Do I pull it out with a pair of pliers or does it twist out?

thank you

No, that's your breather. PCV is on the passenger side. Should be able to get it out by hand, - twist, pull, bend a little, full nelson, - it will give up, trust me.

Wait brew, he might have one of those European right hand drive everything is backwards F150

Hope you don't have one like mine with a coolant line around it, makes a little mess when removing

Not to thread jack, but what does the PCV valve do and what is the recommended interval to change or signs to let you know to change. My wife's 2001 Expy has never had it changed with about 90K on the clock now.
