Oil change at Walmart?

I have a '97 F150 4wd and a '98 Expy. Both have always had oil changes at Ford dealers using Motorcraft 5W-20 blended oil. I've recently moved and the closest Ford dealer is 26 miles away.

I stopped at my very close local Walmart and they charge $30 (plus $2.77 for each quart of oil over 5 qts). I can specify (w/o any extra charge) to use Motorcraft blended 5W-20 oil for the $30 fee. They also, like Ford dealers, check lights, brakes, etc and report the results.

Can anyone think of any reason not to use the Walmart service - I get the same oil as Ford uses. But, they do charge an extra dollar to use a Motorcraft oil filter. Their Fram filter is included in the $30 fee. BTW, Ford charges $39.95.

Thanks
Robert

Make sure they do not use a cheap generic filter. Pay extra fot the Motorcraft if they will do it. And watch them! Make sure the change the filter and the plug goes back in.

Take a good look through their shop, and see if you want the people working there to work on your truck. Personally the only way I would let someone else work on my truck was if it was still under warranty.

Yes - do not use anything other than a motorcraft filter. Pay the extra money - it will save you a lot of money in the long run. It's good that they offer the motorcraft oil's and filters.

I see a lot of people come through our service department with Walmart oil change stickers that read 10w30 or 5w30 bulk oil used instead of 5w20 blend.

The only way I would let WalMart change my oil is with bottled oil that YOU pull off of the shelf and a Motorcraft filter. By default they use the ORANGE CAN OF DEATH (FRAM)!!!

I've had bad experiences with Dealerships also. but I do trust them more than WalMart. I don't even go in that store.

Do it yourself in your drive way if you don't trust them.

I can BARELY stand to let my Ford dealer do it and I only do it for the $19.99 price for Motorcraft oil & filter. I ain't gonna let Wal Mart touch my rig.

Years ago our Wal Mart used to do front end alignments...til a "tech" ruined a high dollar car. He got fired and they stopped alignments immediately.

Who knows - it's very possible that particular Walmart may do a proper job. Offering Motorcraft oil and filters is a positive sign.

You can't paint all shops other than dealers with the same brush - and you also can't assume a dealer is going to do it right either. I go to a Mobil 1 Express Lube, and they are good.

$15 for 6 quarts and a few bucks for a Motorcraft filter is pretty cheap, and more fun to do it yourself, and drop the used oil off at a garage.

Wal Mart doesn't sell service INSIDE the store...what makes you think they will sell it in Automotive Dept.?

Changed the oil in two last night, two more scheduled for next week
I sure do get tired of going to the dump station though. We end up collecting 6 to 7 gallons or more of used oil a month.
