Any good ol boy's know this trick...

Using 1/8th of a tank of diesel or less in a gas job to lube the internals of the fuel system. old trick from the carb system, was just curious if anyone has had a ill effect from doing it?

i always heard of using diesel as a cleaner more then lubrication. Again not something to do on computer controlled engines, and computer controlled emissions

Injectors are alot more fragile then carb "jets"

Not on todays stuff. However I have heard of running gas in a diesel to clean it out a little better. It doesnt run the greatest tough.

Also, instead of diesel you can run treated transmission fluid. It smells weird but works great! I know a guy who ones a trans shop that runs like a 25/75 mix of fuel/trans and it works amazingly. Dont know exactly what he does to the trans fluid though.

I submerged my two stroke dirt bike...used diesel to clean out the crankcase, and get the oil and water out. Did not run the bike but turned it over a few times. Did it more for the cleaning, not sure I would want to use it in my truck. JMO.

This is a good trick for carb'd engines, but a horrible idea for fuel injected engines. We do this every spring on our old farm tractor that we use for mowing waterways. Afterwards the engine will run/idle a little bit smoother, and is easier to start.

ya the idea is the diesel is more of an oil based fuel less abrassive, so the cleaning end is understood. the point i was looking more towards was the o-rings and such in the injectors and basically the entire fuel system, have been told by a few that do it that it hasn't hurt anything yet. Only done it once on my 97 and it never hurt a thing... wasn't by choice mind you but none the less lol

Why have I never had to "clean the fuel system" on ANY of the cars I have owned, from my 67 Plymouth Valiant to my 05 Supercharged Grand Prix? They have all worked fine without it. Am I just lucky?

Diesel is low-octane by design. I'll bet you get lots of knock running a good portion of diesel unless you put in high-octane gas to compensate.

I think I'd use an additive designed for the job if I were to put anything in the gas.

ive heard of trans fluid in the gas and in the oil to help it clean off some of the carbon build up...never diesel fluid thoe. and instead of trans fluid just get some fuel injector cleaner/ Fuel system cleaner like from lukas. and in the oil id use something like Seafoam right before an oil change rather than trans fluid. running diesel in a gas sounds like a bad idea.
