Aftermarket COP's

It is my understanding that alot of us are running aftermarket COP in our trucks.

Globals and Uneek are
two of the companies that come to mind.

Now the question is how long have these companies been around and whats the life of these COPs?

How long have you had these in your trucks without anyproblem besides from them not working from the get go?

My local ford service said alot of the aftermarket COPS dont last more then a year.

I want to get your thoughts on this.

I'm running a set of Global's DG-508s in my 2000 4.6 for about two years now with no problems at all. All 8 worked perfectly right out of the box. I've put about 32,000 miles on them.

Seems that there might have been some issues with Global lately, but I have no complaints. The other company is "Uneek" Supply. Some folks around here have had a good experience with them.

I installed Summit Racings brand that are actually made by Granatelli when I installed the supercharger about 15,000 miles ago. Have had no issues with them, but will be switching to Acell's in the Spring when I change plugs again. Have always used their ignition parts in the past, so you might say that its a comfort thing for me to switch to them now.

My local ford service said alot of the aftermarket COPS dont last more then a year. of course they will tell you that. They want you to spend the $800.00 w/tax for theirs. If the dealer had their way, all the replacment parts would be OEM, but unless you have the cash to burn, you can't live without the aftermarket parts on any vehicle. Case in point, my Brother-inlaw needed alot of front-end work plus all brakes done on his Ram-1500 last year. He took it to the dealer because I couldn't get to it for a few weeks. The dealer wanted $2800.00 for all of the work. He waited out the 2 weeks for me to do it with all parts coming from NAPA plus I did a complete tune-up on it. $750.00 in parts, labor $kindness of my heart. Just for giggles, he called the dealer about the tune up work I did for a comparison, they quoted him 500.00to 600.00 dollars

I want to get your thoughts on this.
Anyway, Global has had issues with quality and replacing defective parts, can take up to a month to get a replacment and in some cases not at all.
(enough said)
Uneek is a new supplier I introduced to this forum and so far there have been no complaints.

I just replaced all eight of mine with the ones from Uneek and the truck runs great. They had very fast shipping. If I only get a year out of these it will still be cheaper then what the dealer wants for there parts.

I think/hope you will do better than that. That would suck replacing them every year. I have read on this forum that ppl have gotten a few years from their Globals. Just so you know, Global got their COP's from Uneek years ago.
Owner of Uneek told me that himself. So far I trust him. There was more to the conversation but I will leave it at that. My next COP's will come from Uneek, I have my 3 month old Global's already sold when I put Uneeks in this Spring.

Why would you do that? I've purchased two sets of Motorcrafts in the past and my Globals lasted longer. My old set is still good. - Purchased Globals in the past for others and their still running them. There isn't to many people that has had problems with them. In fact , I can only think of two people in the last 3 years. Global sells more coils than anyone I know. BTW - that's 2 people, country wide - Their #1.

They would stay in but I am getting an excellent deal from Uneek on a set of 8 or 10, which ever I like. It's a "thank you for the extra business, price" from the owner of Uneeksupply. The other reason is I have a friend who owns an auto-shop and he is buying my Globals. He wants them on hand because he knows a Ford 5.4L will pull in and need a COP replacement. He said he will offer mine for $100.00 or new NAPA's for $480.00.

Like I said before, there are plenty of ppl on here who have run their Globals for years, no problems.

Actually Brew, find the thread about the Global issue's. Just in that thread alone were a few people who said they had problems but said the heck with it because they got them for a good price.

Yea, that was #2 = Your #1 - But yea, it sucks getting a bad product, then going thru the whodang on getting replacement - THEN having to replace it. Leaves yuh with a big question mark about rest of your ignition system using their products.

You can get a bad coil from anyone. I know I know, Global shafted you in making good on the warranty. - They took long enough and need better consumer relations. That was just bad business and you definitely have a right to be p^ssed.

Lets hope Uneek don't mess up or their in for a sh^t storm - They have a long way to go to catch up to Global. With more competition, maybe Global will straiten up a bit and not ruin a good thing.

Yea, MSD's are nice. I haven't heard one bad thing about them. ACCEL on the other hand is opposite of that. And not just in this forum.

I have read where people have a lot of trouble with Accel and I heard that selling bad COPs nearly put Granitelli out of business.

I put a set of the Globals in mine about a year and half ago and didn't have any problems. I also purchased a set for one of my fleet vehicles last summer and had one coil with a broken connector out of the box. Called Global and sent it to them and they sent a replacement. About 3 weeks later this same set started experiencing random miss-fires had to replace them with the Motorcrafts to get the vehicle back in service but boxed them up after a few choice words spoken over the phone and Global sent a replacement set so now I have a set sitting on the shelf for next time. One of my tech's just put a set in his wife truck last week so we'll see if he has any problems. It's not unusual to get a bad electronic part out of the box it can just be inconvienent and agrivating sometimes. It really lessens the agrivation when the vendor steps up to the plate and backs their product.
