You should have forged crank, all 5.4 have forged cranks.

they would also weigh more. but for his and 99% of the people on this website. they dont need to worry about the blocks being stronger since there is 1% on here who make over 1000hp at the flywheel.

That what I thougth till I talked to Mike Troyer about building a motor. He also said the nonNVH block is good for just as much horsepower as the NVH block it just needs a stud gurdel (sp). Phil that is why your 03 just happend to have a forged crank. Has anyone seen as 5.4 with a cast crank?

Yes the NVH block does weigh slightly more than the regular 5.4 block. The point I was making is you stated that the NVH block is not stronger than the regular 5.4 block. But it is.

its hit or miss if u got a forged crank of not

It never hurts to err on the side of caution. Who knows where this will end up going. I know it won't be 1000hp obviously.

Here's step one of the build. Engine is now totally torn down and ready to go to the machine shop Friday.
It is a little dirtier than I was hoping for but should not be a problem. Piston, crank, etc are all gone now and in a pile of scrap. Good news is I'm almost positive I ended up getting a forged crank. The parting line is really thick so I'm thinking I did Ok on this deal. I'll get a few pics later for verification.

Thick....will post a pic in a few minutes. Loading my new tune in for the old motor now. Still working on my blow through setup until the new motor is done. It was late, I should have been in bed earlier.....
