5.4 DOHC going in Expy this weekend...

Hello all , another 5.4 swap in progress!

I found a deal on a complete 04 navi motor and am swapping the 4.6 out of my 02 Expy this weekend.
The Navi motor has NO oil in it, my question is once I have swapped the engine , how do I get the oil pressure up when first cranking it without damaging anything ?

upgrade the injectors since your getting a custom tune anyway.

the DOHC motors can make gobs of torque

good luck on the install, I'll be lurking around as this swap interests me but sorry I know nothing about the modular oil pumps

Sounds like a cool project.

Why doesn't the new motor have oil in it? Have you heard it run yet?

I have a Procharger D1SC on the 4.6 thats going onto the 5.4 at 12lbs, just installed 60lb Siemens injectors and will be using a Vortech aftercooler from a 97 Cobra (fits perfect!) . The motor has not run in a while and I have it on an engine stand, so flipping it upside down and back again with the oil pan off (just put on a new 5.4 f-150 pan on) all the oil is out of the engine.

Will it hurt anything if I disconnect the COP's , spin the motor till I get oil pressure , then fire it up?

If you are filling the motor for the first time, fill the oil filter and put it on the motor, also, take the valve covers off and put oil on all the valves and cams etc. This way when you crank it over the head shouldnt be to dry and the motor will instantly suck up oil from the filter. Other then that you should be ok I'd believe.

Modern FI engines will not start if you hold the pedal to the floor while cranking.

You could pull the fuel pump fuse to keep it from starting till pressure is built up.

Sure they will. "Clear flood" mode.

Just stomp gas pedal to the floor a time or two than while cranking. it will sit there and turn over, but not fire. I would drop the pan and clean it.

When I pulled the Navi oil pan off, the motor was spotless inside. I saw it when it was still in the wrecked truck and according to Car-fax , that Navi only had 36k on it. The engine is just broken in. READY FOR BOOST
