Water temperature sending unit location

I have the Flex-a-lite 270 electric fan set up that the controller cooked on. Barely got two years out of it. So I bought a DiF controller off of e-bay, and it says to hook it up to water coolant temperature sending unit. The problem is I can't find the sending unit on the engine or in the shop manuals, the manual shows one for the 4.2 but not the 5.4 Only the CHT sending unit is shown on 5.4. I have a 2001 supercrew with the 5.4, any help would be appreaciated. I like the flex-a-lite fans and there mounting system is one of the best, but they really need to improve on there controllers.

The 5.4 has ONLY a CHT. It does not have a separate coolant temperature sensor.
