very rough 4.6l 1999 f150
Hello im new to this forum and i must say there is alot of very good info here that being said I hope someone out there can help me im kinda new to the whole fuel injected mass air...... basically non-carborator engine and this one is driving me NUTS!! ive had the truck for about a year and a half it had 185000miles on it it now has 205000+ i just had the trans rebuilt and now im having a rough idle and when i even tap on the accl it tries to die no power lopes like half the cyl are not firing now for what I have done, new plugs, wires, coils, had the injectors cleaned tested and redressed, and im in the process of de-gunking the tb (205000+ it looked like the inside of a charcoal plant) any more ideas would really be appreciated like i said im a little out of my element and im yanking my hair out

It did and like i said im kinda new at this so im still waiting for my software and connector for my pc to pull the codes i live way to far from the closest auto zone to drive it the way it is now (26mi) so i decided to get the stuff so ill have it before i did the plugs wires and coils i was getting a intermittent fast blink on the CEL

Have you cleaned the IAC? Would be a good thing to do if you are doing the throttle body. Have you checked to make sure the EGR valve isn't sticking open? Have you checked all the vacuum lines for cracks, breaks, and leaks?
I wonder if you could use another vehicle, go over to Autozone, and "rent" a code scanner.

the last time i rented anything from auto zone it was a nightmare i would not like to relive as for the iac if it was attached to the tb it got cleaned the egr valve seems not to stick (i did the ol pucker and suck test seems to move freely) as for the vac lines i intend on just replacing them all in next few days wich leads to another ? can i replace these plastic lines with all rubber or do i have to go thru the headache of going to the dealer for them

Just a comment on your intention; I would not go replacing parts on an engine that is already in trouble unless there is clear indication of failure because you can introduce more problems and it becomes a real hassle before you get hold of all the issues.
A blinking CEL lamp was an indication one cylinder was passing raw gas to the cats.
Get your codes read and act on those codes and clear them before you begin to mass replace non-related parts.
Always start from a good and non trouble point before replacing parts other than for an issue.
If you had vacuum leaks, lean codes would appear and not a blinking lamp for too much raw fuel.
Your truck uses computer control on the motor so the old carb methods are out the window for the most part. There are over 1000 possible codes in the computer's program as this point.
Good luck.

Yea, usually when I had an engine light on - I would stop and get it scanned on the way home from work or whatever - since it's free. Either I would replace the part in the parking lot or take it back home and do it. It's nice being pointed in the right direction before hand. Makes things allot easier at times.

i agree but right now its not a daily driver in fact its not even registered when it started to give me problems i just parked it beacuse i didnt have the time to mess with it now i have the time and i need it to haul a trlr to pick up some fencing and what not (i dont like pulling a trlr with the lincoln)

ok finally got the scanner hooked up and suprise no trouble codes but my sensor readings are wild the rpms at idle range from 250-900, fuel system 1 open loop system failure, timing advance was bouncing from 6 to over 20 degrees btdc calc load value was all over the place 10% to 100% and i barely made it around the block at sometimes a whopping 10mph

You must have reset the KAM - That erases all your codes..
