2000 f150 5.4l using oil
hey guys i am new to the website and have a quick question. i have a 2000 f150 5.4l with 123K miles. when i bought the truck it had a valve cover leak so i replaced that and the truck still burns oil. drove 400 miles this weekend and i lost 2+ quarts of oil. did oil change right before i left. no drips on the ground and i dont have any sign of a white smoke. i can see these truck use a little oil but this is worring me. please help!! thanks a lot.

2 quarts in 400 miles? Check the pcv valve. Look on the under side and make sure the spring is not collapsed. Also make sure it when you shake it the valve moves freely. A bad one would cause excessive blow by. Never heard of one burning that much without any signs of it. That is a lot. A quart between changes is typical, well.. without worry. But I would be worried about 2 quarts in 400 miles.
How many quarts did you put in it? And how did you determine it used 2 quarts?
Make sure your dip stick is accurate by doing a full drain and filter change. Then add 6 quarts and see where it reads on the stick.
Make sure and use a motorcraft pcv valve

thanks for the replies. well it is at the add line on the dipstick so im not exactly sure how many quarts. i made sure it was full after the oil change. is it possible to have a leak coming down the engine block and its burning away before i can see it on the ground? i just dont want to keep the truck if it is going to be a real expensive fix. i did the pcv check and it seems to move freely
