Ebay, you can get a set of 8 ignition coils from global automotive who now carry a lifetime, fully replaceable warranty for around $85 plus a few dollars for shipping. Alot of people use them and they work great.

You said that that a set was $85. I'm not really understanding what you are talking about as the plugs are about $40 and the coils are $60 each.Is there something i'm missing? What does updating my cop's include.
Thanks KEN
Yea , make sure you read back on page one and follow that as far as COP's and plugs. Search "misfire" on this site and you'll get all the info you need.

Motorcraft plugs (don't forget that)

COP = Coil Over Plug. That's your ignition type.

Most users @ this site purchase coil sets from this ebay store (Global Automotive) -

I didn't see your picture at first, but i think it's the piece under it with the two tabs in your pic,It looked like it was in two pieces and had some kind of insulation under it,It was real brittle and just sort of crumbled It covers the top of the plastic lower intake.Im getting ready to put the intake back on but not sure weather i should without this cover. Also it must have been the o rings in the tube that was leaking because the tube looked good.So i'm going to put some new o-rings in it and move on.Also on your pic does the o-ring and gasket in the lower intake were the elect. plug plugs in need to be changed wile its out?

Actually my gaskets looked good on the lower intake so I didn't change them - I didn't have any at the time either or I would have - It's always a good idea to change the gaskets - If you don't , make sure you clean them up well if their in good shape.

I didn't bother replacing the o-rings on the water pump stem because Ford doesn't - I read that somewhere and if you have a Haynes or Chilton's book - Look in section 1 , they show a picture of a Reman block with the Ford fix. They use heater hose and don't bother replacing the o-rings because they don't last don't last..

BTW - Those gaskets must be "oil free" on install or they may leak. All surfaces and gaskets themselves must be clean and dry.

Just found out the name of the part is the insulator. cost $44 at ford dealer and he has to order it. Is this part really needed?

Similar Coolant leak Problem

I have a similar problem. Whenever I give it gas it started sputtering and hopping around and the idle was pretty rough. Took in to the mechanic I always use and they determined it was a leak in the either the head gasket or intake gasket and the leak had shorted out one of the coil packs. They replaced the coil pack and gasket, thermostat and flushed the radiator. Ran great for about 2 weeks and now the problem is back. I replaced the plugs with Motorcraft plugs (again) just to make sure that wasn't the problem, checked the injectors, checked the oil for coolant and nothing. Can't see any coolant leaks but the engine is sucking gas like it's just blowing by. The problem started at exactly 149,998.6 miles.

Well, I would get one. It's there for a reason. I'm not sure what might happen without it - I don't know..

Update: Two coil packs went out in two weeks #4 & #6. I plan on replacing them all this weekend. First time the truck has ever been in the shop other than tires and alignment.
