what are the best plugs for the 2001 5.4L engine? I have 60000km on mine now (I don't drive much) and want to change out the originals. Thanks

Yup, Motorcraft and gap @ .054. I've heard other brands even made by the same company are NFG in these engines. I did, but many won't use anti-seize on the threads, I did a tiny bit.

With only 60k km I don't think you really need to worry too much about changing plugs yet??

Unless you are having a specific 'mis' or something plug/cop related, I'd just leave 'em be...

I know I'll get jbrew going on this, but when I first got my truck in 2001, it had 60k miles on it, so I figured I'd change the plugs.... Not being on this site yet, and going for all the 'hype' I've heard about them in mags and all, I went to the Bosch +4 plugs... The original MC's came out fine and looked ok (I still have them!). They were gaped a bit more then spec, but no real 'wear' on them...

Well, after I found this site, I found out I just put in the worst possible set of plugs in my 5.4 I could ever find!! Knowing how hard they were to replace, I figured I'd just wait to see if they were really as bad as they say... I'm still waiting!!

I've got over 181,000 miles on the truck now, so that means just a bit over 120,000 miles on the 'POS' Bosch +4 plugs!

No mis, no code, no idle problems, no burned pistons and the sky did not fall either! I'm getting the same, if not a tad better mpg's (15-16 ave) now as I did when it had 60,000 miles on it. It tows the TT in my sig just fine and I've been totally satisfied.

So, I'm probably just like those weight loss commercials you see on TV where in the little print at the bottom of the screen, it says "Your results may vary. This is not the typical results of most people..."

I usually stay out of these kind of threads, but every now and again, I'll pipe up and tell my story..

Mitch
