Hey guys, my truck keeps stalling out when I am at stop lights, I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep er running.
it just started today, at first the engine light was not on but it is now.
any help would be great

IAC 99.99% sure That is, Idle Air Control valve.

 

You know, every Ford I've owned (since 1993) has had some type of Idle Air Control Valve problem (if equipped). My '99 Contour SVT ate 2 of them in three years, and I had a '99 Town Car that also had a problem...

 

Its the IAC. Just replaced mine this last week.

 

You don't give the code but there is more to this since 04.
The throttle is electronic control.
There is a seperate micro processor and programming that controls the throttle.
The reason is, a built in safety that shuts down the throttle when there is a detected fault to prevent run-away since you have no direct control over the throttle.
At this point you don't know what is wrong until it's checked out at a dealer.

is the IAC an easy replacement or something I should have done at a shop
I don't know the code or how to get the code without having someone hook it up to a laptop. is their a way to get the code without a laptop ?

 

You truck uses the newest CAN system and needs a code reader or scanner with that capability.
Until you see the code and find what part of the system is causing the problem, you will either be throwing parts at the fault or have luck if it fixes the fault.

 

Hell, just throw parts at it, that is the concieved notion that 99% of dealerships do right???

Your better off taking it in, and having it diaged, that is, unless your comfortable with "online" diagnosis???

Could be a IAC..

Could be a throttle pedal issue...

Could be fuel system related....

But, i'm just a tech, i could be wrong.......

 

There is no code that tells you an IAC is bad. When the air doesn't reach the engine at idle and it stalls, it's bad. 99.99% of everything else that would cause this problem would throw a code of one type or another.

As far as diagnostics, the only diagnosis needed would be ... does it run with the foot on the gas, then stall when you let off...yeah...bad IAC.

And yeah it's easy...something like 2 8mm bolts and an electrical connection and you're done.

 

I disconnected the battery and replaced the gas filter, and air filter and so far the light has not came back on, and it has not stalled. I was going to replace the IAC but the parts stores don't have them yet for 2005, dealer only I guess. anyways I will run it and watch and see.
p.s the gas that came out of the old filter was brown and nasty

 

Won't I feel like an idiot when it's not the IAC because I misred the first post ... didn't realize the CEL was on.

P0505 - Idle Air Control (IAC) System Malfunction

P0506 - Idle Air Control (IAC) System RPM Lower Than Expected

P0507 - Idle Air Control (IAC) System RPM Higher Than Expected

P0511 - Idle Air Control (IAC) Circuit Malfunction

Well, so much for their "not" being any codes to "condem" a IAC...

And as far as "looking" like a idiot..... Well........

 

I've been reading/hearing alot of talk about IAC's lately causing bad idle. But what does the IAC look like on a new 5.4 with electronic idle control??? Does anyone have a pic from one of the new motors??

 

I would like to see that pic as well
