5.4L Triton Crate Replacement?

Hey guys, quick question here. Don't hang me for not searching if this has been asked already ... so I've got myself a v6 '98 short bed regular cab, and I'm looking to start an engine swap project, because the 160rwhp isn't cutting it. Does anyone know where I can get one of these crates? Any information or help is appreciated. TIA.

You can't do it, not without a full doner or everything that comes with, including the dash - if it was a 4.6 to a 5.4L - then it's easy.

That's allot of work and headaches converting the 4.2L - I would sell it and find one with a V8.. That's the easiest and prolly cheapest route.

It's not just a matter of aquiring the motor - that's the easy part actually, but , by all means search it out - try the V6 section as well..

Good Luck

i would contact your local ford dealer, or a local shop and see if and where they can get one.

Find a bone yard and search for a wrecked truck with no front end damge and has a good 5.4 in it and get everything you need out of it.

Basically, if you have to ask, you shouldn't even consider doing it. Trade your truck out and save yourself the $$ and hassle.

It can be done and it is not that difficult. You will need an engine, ok we knew that and a tranny. Your V6 tranny will not bolt up to the V8. You will also need a PCM and the engine / tranny harness. Get a PCM from a 97 or 98 F-150 so it doesn't have the PATS, Passive Anti-Theft System. You will need to make sure that the donor engine has all the sensors. A Ford shop manual with the wire diagrams is vital. You will need the engine mounts for the V8. The exhaust system will have to be reconfigured to mat up with the exhaust manifolds on the V8. I am sure I am missing a few things but it is 4:17 A.M. so forgive me if I did.

It's probably easier just to find a project truck, you're right, I'm sure. But I'm trying to get an idea of a good place to grab all this stuff (other than the obvious bone yard option).

About the lack of ability... this would be my first real engine swap, and my dad's a mechanic, so I'm sure we could pull it off with the proper references and information.

But.... I'm probably going to just find another truck, if i can.

Ya, unless you've got some serious car experience under your belt attempting an involved engine swap really isn't wise.

Best is to stick a for sale sign on the truck and look for a used one of about the same age with the motor you want.

There is no fun in "getting an other truck". If you look hard enough you will find deals everywhere. There is a local puke wagon company, sells food out of a canteen truck, that has a propane V10 truck for sale. Too bad it is not stick. The V10 is just begging to find a home inside my engine compartment.
