how much time between oil change

I drive my truck everyday, but not more than 20 miles total. Therefore it takes way more than 3 months to reach the 3000 miles for the oil change. Do I need to change every 3 months like the mechanics always suggest? Or will the oil actually last longer than that? Or should I just go by the miles driven and not worry about the time duration? Thanks.

If you are driving enough to get the condensation out of the engine every day, you can go the 3500 mile route. If you are not running the engine long enough to to cook off the moisture, changing oil everyday isn't going to help as you are going to have sludge. I have a collector car, one of only seven made, and the oil has been in the engine for the last four years. I had the fluid analized two months ago and it is fine. When the engine is started, it gets to run for at least 20 minutes and averagely more like 45 minutes. Just make sure you are running the engine long enough to reach full temp for at least 20 minutes, change the oil every 3500 miles, sit back and enjoy the ride.

The manual says oil changes at 5000 miles. Whether it be 1 month or two years between changes, it gets changed at 5000 miles. On my 2007, it's actually 7500 miles.

No one is ever going to convince me oil goes bad sitting in the pan. Not like there's an expiration date on the bottle. I drive a measely 16 miles a day to and from work. Never had a problem with oil breaking down from lack of use.

Thanks for the replys. I drive about 10 miles to work , but because of traffic it takes about 20 minutes to get there and its on the interstate so it should get the condensation out.

My thought was to just change it when it hit the 5000 mile mark and not worry about how long time wise it has been, but just wanted to make sure that the oil doesn't break down and lose its lubricating abilities when it sits.
