Cold air induction

Hey folks, I have a 4.6L 97 XLT supercab 4x4 and I want to make the engine what it should be. I plan to install a K&N system with a spacer. Someone also told me I need a new throttle body as well to "complete" the upgrade. I also want to install a 50 series delta flow muffler with dual exhausts out the rear.

I'd like to hear you comments/suggestions!

Thank you!!

Well, you asked for it...

> K&N - minimal gains - far better intakes available
> Spacer - paperweight. Useless.
> Throttle body - no gains on a stock truck - waste of $$$
> FartMaster - Contains silly little baffles. Reduces scavenging. Kills low-end torque. Sounds good.
> Duals - keep it to 2.25" pipe max.

All the above is well documented on this site. Please use the Search function to find out more. Spoon Department closed - Self-Help Department is across the hall. Thank-you.

Sorry, don't mind me ... it's my period.

MGDfan is right on everything he stated IMO.
I have 2flow 40s and have noticed a slight decrease in torque but it is hardly noticeable.I Plan to add an Xpipe and long tube headers and maybe high flow cats.Consider purchasing a quality power programmer as this seems to be the best bang for buck.I have an edge.As far as throttle body try cleaning the build up out of it or consider porting and polishing your stock one.You can find a thread here.TB Spacer (POS)Consider an AF1 intake as this seems to make the most power. These are all things that work well for the 5.4.You have 4.6 so maybe someone else has something better for the 4.6.I would do something a little dif on exhaust b/c everyone and their brother has straight out the back up there.I know,i lived in Hammond most of my life about 15 min from you Small world
Anyone who wants to add or correct me feel free

I totally agree with the straight pipes out of the back. It seems everytime you see a nice looking truck with nice exhaust the owner ruins it by being traditional going straight out of the back. I have an 04' 5.4, 5.5 bed, and I have my exhaust dumped right over the back axle angling out towards the tail lights. It is un-noticable that I have custom exhaust when looking at the girl, but damn if she doesn't sound like a monster when you start her up!

Kevin, yeah that would be a really hard race, gosh! haha No kidding, you know you're from the North Country if you lived in hammond!

MGD thanks for your help, I'll try the knife department next time!

I know I don't have the biggest engine, but its a V8. Quite frankly i'm glad I have the 4.6, better on gas and for me being in college its better than a bigger engine.
Well can someone suggest a good brand of Cold Air induction kits that would be a better brand to chose from??

Air Force One CAI works well for the 5.4 go down to intakes and exhaust and see for the 4.6 but you may want to consider a power programmer also.

Good Luck,
Kevin

I am putting the finishing touches on my 01 4.6 tomorrow. It screams and I have not even loaded the programmer yet. Here is what i did and so far so good.

BBK 75mm Throttle Body.
New Plenum (Polished and Matched to TB)
Polished Manifold (Matched to heads and Plenum)
K&N Series 77 Cold Air Intake.
GMS Mass Air Flow Sensor
Plasma Booster Ignition Amp
Accel COPs
Denco Iridium Plus Plugs
High Flow Converters
3" Magnaflow Mufflers
3" Pipes
Still not installed yet Diablo Predetor Programmer.
I frigin love it. I just lay a thought on the accelerator and it is off like a rocket. The programmer is going to redo my shift points and I want that in a bad way. I am pleased with all my choices and everything seems to be living up to my expectations and their ads.
