30,000 Mile Service

Hi there! I have a 2006 F150 XLT very well maintained and its coming up on 30K. I am getting conflicting stories on what 30K service to have done and where.

What services do I actually need to have done, other than normal oil, lube?

Do I need to have it done at the dealer to keep the warranty?
Help please!

LadyFord in Texas!

It does not have to be done at the dealer to keep the warranty as long as the shop uses stuff that meets specs.

I would recommend in addition to an oil change, you change the fuel filter, air filter, and transmission fluid.

Yes, the things listed in the above post need to be done. I found that my dealer did them for about the same price as elsewhere and I like taking it back to the dealer as long as it is in warranty. Be sure and have them check the brake pads as the OEM pads don't always last very long.

I would also repack the wheel bearings, and check the cooling system. If any part of any of the hoses feels spongey, replace all the hoses. Also, it doesn't cost anything to inspect the drive belt, so why not?

If nothing else, I would(like as already been said) change fuel filter, air filter, and have the tranny serviced, aka fluid exchange/flush.

If she has a 4X2, the bearings are built into the rotor and you don't pack them. Also, if you take it to the dealer, they do the multicheck free. That is, my dealer does and I think they all do, looking for things to do for you.

Yes, 30k is a good time to get a multi-point inspection done. Most dealers and shops do this with menu pricing.

That's what I would recommend too.

With the exception of the tranny fluid (my car is a manual) and the addition of a coolant change, the LOF and the fuel filter are the items I had done at my 30K. Going in knowing what I actually needed done off of the list of items and bringing the 2 filters and oil, my 30K only cost $150 instead of the $600 it would have been had I gone with the dealerships recommended 30K tune up!
