Well, I have been researching the "high performance" coils a lot lately. Here is what I have found out. All of the aftermarket coils EXCEPT GMS only have slightly higher voltage outputs than stock, UNLESS you are running an ignition upgrade that increases your input voltage. The GMS coils are supposed to produce roughly 60,000 volts output at STOCK input voltage. The connectors and boots are supposed to be better on the GMS coils also. I had lengthy conversations with MSD and GMS. Accel just said the tech. info. would be posted on the site in March sometime.

I have not bought any yet, but there's the "reader's digest version" of what I have found out so far.

Hi! Unless your running above 6,000 RPM, Ignition upgrades are a waste of money. The ignition only uses what it Needs, therefore if it only takes 60,000 Volts to ionize the gap (jump the spark plug) the truck will only USE 60,000 Volts from that 100,000 Volt Super Accel Coil. Higher voltage ignitions only really come into play on high revving engines.

stock coils are around 30-32kv and cant handle prolonged high rpm. so if u want better fuel burn then get a stronger coil.
