Fuel Economy

Many F150 owners are looking to aftermarket products such as intakes, programmers, and exhaust to give them better fuel economy. These trucks are massive and require a great deal of energy to get them moving. If you expect your truck to accelerate like a nimble SUV or sports car you’re going to need a lot of fuel. So, unless you’re looking for performance, forget the aftermarket parts and examine your driving habits. Accelerate slowly and anticipate your stops.

LMAO.
I think a lot of people are searching for methods of improving fuel efficiency not to have them be like hybrid cars, but just to reach maximum efficiency. That's optimal for all systems; economic, bureaucratic, legal, etc.

I agree with you Norm, however, I had hoped that with gas prices on the rise again this topic would have spurred some debate.

If you want good gas mileage buy a prius not a truck.

It amazes me when people buy a 5500 + pound brick with wheels and then complain about gas mileage. I bought mine with no misconceptions about how much gas it was gonna suck down every week, and it hasnt proven me wrong yet. You want good mileage and still have a truck, get a Tacoma with a 4 cylinder. If not, buy an F150 and then spend hundreds of dollars on trinkets that supposedly improve mileage.

I agree. I can get 16mpg running 75... I have plenty of power, love the sound, and can not keep my foot out of it.

[QUOTE] So, unless you’re looking for performance, forget the aftermarket parts and examine your driving habits. Accelerate slowly and anticipate your stops.[QUOTE]

When I bought my truck it got 16 MPG on the hiway. When I added 10 ply tires it got even less. After I added a Magnaflow SISO exhaust, K&N filter and custom tunes from Troyer it now gets over 18 MPG on the hiway. Sure driving habits are part of the equation for better milage, but only part. You can't improve the effenciency of your engine with your foot no matter how light. There are some very worthwhile upgrades out there and there is more to better performance than just more power.

I dont think its the general debate of gas mileage, I think its like my case where everyone here is running anywhere from 15-18 depending on driving habits. However with mine im currently getting 10.3-14.6 or so. 14.6 is no passing on the highway(pedal to the floor) and 11 is. The last tank, mainly freeway, I got 14.6 and tried for better mileage so I was watching myself and stayed at or under 70 and while 14 is better than 10 or 11 its not that great. E-Fans, DiabloSport, K&N. Would new upstream o2 sensors help even a bit?
