Now, I know this is a Ford site, BUT.....

does anybody in here know anything about Dodge engines? i found a REALLY nice 1999 Ram 2500 ext. cab, long-bed, 4X4, 8.0L V10.... only problem is, it needs engine work heres what the guy said

*** Engine Damage! Engine has internal water leak, suspect bad head gasket. Has had 2 broken rocker arm bolts repaired in last 5 months, definite valve train problems will need top end rebuild at minimum. Do not know if other damage to engine exists. Starts and runs but has miss in one of the cylinders.

anybody have any input? its going for $4000. its an awesome truck!

Think of how much it would be to fix the problem(s) with the Dodge and compare to a Ford. I can't say much, but I have only ever seen maybe 3 Dodge pickups with the v-10, since the 94-95 restyle. The diesel is by far the better choice here. Sounds like the 4000 dollar truck may turn into 8-9k buck truck after repair.

What he is asking for it is far too much. Basically, he has a truck body for sale. The V-10 platforms are about the worse engine designs out there. They are inheritantly an unbalanced engine with balance shafts or offset cranks so that you don't "feel" the balance issues but the balance and stress issues are still there. Most auto manufactureres are dropping the V-10 configuration because of this. Figure a new engine will be required and the cost will exceed the price of the truck if you do it correctly. There are much better deals out there. Frankly, he is asking full price for a wreck.

i want to stick to a Ford, but F-150's are ALLOT more expensive then Rams. yes, i know its for a reason. i always wanted mt first truck to be a Ford. i grew up with my dads 87 F-250.... i wouldnt die. he slammed it into a ploe in a blizzard, sold it for $500 bucks, and bought a 99 Ram.... the Ford still runs. and his dodge already has rust.... and the Ford had little to none. if anybody sees a nice, White 4x4 F-150, lemme know. i will consider anything within like 400 miles of Austin or Chicago. the only problem is, i only have like $400 RIGHT NOW.

My brother just sold a very nice 97 dodge v10. lots of power and few major engine problems (the truck always needed something). He had to have a dealer work to get $7000 for it.

IMO Don't touch a dodge w/ problems and a gas engine.

The Ford v-10 is much better than the Dodge one, but even the Ford has a balance shaft. Not sure if the 3valve does, but the 2 valve ones for sure. They are hogs on gas, but have retard power so..... My dad has had an 01, 02, 04, 05 F-350 4X4 xtend cab duallies and never any problems with any. The 02 towed a 21 ft boat from Detroit to San Fransisco, and a 33 ft one back home through the rockies no less. Kinda wish they'd bring back the big block v-8, chevy did! Ford???? Anyone home???? 460 rebirth???
