What size engine do you have? Being an XL, I'm guessing a 4.2

2000 F150 4x4 w/4.6- upper/lower ball joints (lowers twice), RF hub, RF abs sensor, pinion seal, lower tie-rods. At 70k the rear end started to whine/whoop. Now I have a 2007 F150.
Never had any problems under the hood. The origional battery was still in it when I traded it in.

Mine has the 4.6l in her. Previous owner replaced the clutch and rebuilt the tranny parts. But the engine is still running very strong.

Bad guess on the XL, thats why I don't like to guess. On the 4.6 engine side, they like to go through DPFEs [about every 100,000 plus or minus]and always can stand to have the EGR ports cleaned. The IAC will act up [plenty of threads here about that].

I had my 97 F-150 5.4 motor and 107,000 when I bought it. The only thing that went out on it in the year I owned it was the PCV Tube. Traded that in December of 06 for an 05 F-150 5.4 motor good thing it is still under warrantee because the 4 wheel drive has wen out twice I have put less than 4,000 miles on it. And the Cam Phasers need to be repaced. If I could get my old truck back I would do it in a minute.

99 4.6 and the only thing Ive HAD to replace were the original plug wires at about 120K miles, and the ball joints a little while later.
Has 154K on it now.

At 310,000 miles my 97 4.6 has had:

The differential bearings: carrier/pinion (8.8") at 200,000 miles
U-joints and center carrier bearing 210,000 miles
one alternator at 285,000 miles but had bearings at 160,000 miles
DPFE last week
Both outer manifold y-pipe studs
Lower ball joints at 275,000 miles, rest of front end is original
Some dash lights
Corroded through + battery cable at the starter.

Current issues:
Sometimes intermitant wipers don't work right. GEM module?
Some dash lights. If you change one change them all!
Rearmost exhaust manifold studs are broken causing a small tick until the exhaust gets warm then they seal up.
Broken drivers lumbar mechanicals
The fuel and brake lines under the truck are very rusty. I will be painting them with grease to stop the rust.

I'm amazed at the life of the front end parts and that the water and fuel pumps are original. It's had three tune-ups but only replaced the plug wires once. Only replaced the accesory drive belt once. 4 sets of tires. 3 sets of front rotors on about 8 brake jobs. Rear shoes once on original drums. Add a quart of oil about every 1200 miles. Great truck. Hope to see 400K miles

'03 F150 5.4 with 48,000 miles, I've had the truck for just over two years now. Only thing I've done to the truck besides oil changes is: new tires, a new belt, front pads/rotors. That's it!

hey bent. 310k?? you definitely got your moneys worth out of her. i would replace all your brake lines. steel lines are not that expensive. putting grease on them wont really help much. the lines will rust from the inside out. old brake fluid attracts moisture aka rust.

I bleed the brakes with every brake job. I'm cheap and don't want to damage the calipers or abs pump. I am sure there is no water from within. Our climate and the salted roads really make things rust. The fuel lines look about the same. To change the brake lines, I'd want to use factory style direct replacements, and it looks like a total PITA. I don't want multiple joints. I'm pretty sure the grease should stop the rust. I only need to drive the truck another 4-5 years then I'll buy a new/used truck from the desert. I do have new front rubber hoses that I'll put on this spring

you cant buy factory lines from ford. if you bring it to the dealer for example they just go to napa or autozone etc.. and buy from them and just bend them up. i did my whole truck in about 6 hours. some pb blaster, plumbers type propane torch. and good set of wrenches and a cheap 10@ tubing bender.ive had a hard line burst on my old dakota it sucks. trust me it worth doing ,especially if you need 3-4 more years out of her.
