Question What's the Word on Iridium Plugs & Aftermarket Coil Packs 2V 5.4?

I've got a 2004 Expedition with the 2 valve 5.4. I've put on an open air intake and after cat exhaust. I'm wanting alil more power and mileage. I've had good luck in the past switching to double platinum plugs, but I've been reading alot about these new iridium plugs. What are your take on them? Does MSD make coil packs for these 5.4? I plan on going with some kind of tuner soon, but I'm getting alittle bit of a vibration at idle so I figure I should go this route first. I realize these are 100,000 mile plugs, but I don't agree. Any insight would be great guys!

I used the ngk iridium's in my mazda. It's a little 4 cyl and it loves them. I don't get a ton of miles on them though. Probably like 35-40k. Basically once per year I change them. But they are noticeable smoother idling. As far as aftermarket COP's. I can't say. I did replace my truck's COP's the other weekend and it appears to run great now. Keep in mind that I had probably 5 original COP's in there with almost 180k on them. I know that doesn't give a good baseline comparison because I swapped plugs at the same time. I used the accell's from Summit. Cheaper than motorcraft from a dealer, more expensive than motorcraft off ebay. I know MSD makes COP's for the motor too, but I have only heard they are more than the Accell one's $-wise.

I couldn't find any for my 5.4 on MSD's website. I see that Troyer offers Granettelli coils and Denso iridium plugs. If I'm only gonna get 30,000 miles out of a set of $100.00 plugs, I don't know if the benefit out weights the price though. Thanks for the info. Anybody else?

Question

That only shows the coils for the 4.6. So they make them for the 5.4? Are they better than the Granetelli's?

Keep in mind that I'm using them in dohc mazda motor and they are the NGK's not denso's. I can't factually give input on the denso's in the 5.4. I know driving my truck last weeked it was funny. I'm doing 80 and around 2250 rpms and in my mazda I'm turning somewhere in the 3800-4000 range. Of course I don't redline in the mazda till 6500 and it will push past that. And trust me the mazda isn't a racer. Just alot smaller! Less than half the motor running twice as fast, so you could maybe get more miles out of the denso's in a 5.4. At least by my reasoning.

Well - they will likely be cheaper

Don't know what the differences would be for a 5.4, (non-3V).

Perhaps contact MSD & see what they say???

The 4.6 and 5.4 share the same ignition systems.

Granetelli's use to have capacitor problems - MSD's are awesome..

Denso's fire at 5000 less volts than other platinum plugs - Good stuff!!

Troyer know's his sh^t..

Thanks for all the info guys. I may give both MSD and Troyer a call and give them a comparison. Any others?
