Cool

HI!... Yes either one will bolt in, but you will have to make custom motor mounts. I have a 408 in a RANGER and I used a engine plate to mount it.

They stuff the 4.6L in the exploder, so I'd guess the ranger would be big enough too.

Unless you just happen to have of those sitting around, I'd recommend dropping a 302 in it. For about $600, you can get a bolt on adapter kit that includes evrything you need. And you can easily get 350 HP from a 302.

A 302 or a 4.6 were both available at one time or another in the Explorer of the same generation, so they *should* shoe-horn under there without too much difficulty. 2wd is easy enough, 4x4 is a bit more of a challenge, but not at all impossible.

I'd use an Explorer/Mountaineer 4.6L setup. Once you collect all the parts, it should drop in without fabrication of any kind.

Don't forget about the transmission... you'll need the trans from the donor vehicle as well. AFAIK, the 5R55E doesn't bolt up behind the V-8s. (A4LD IIRC?)

I'm pretty sure the 5R55E is just an updated 4R70W, which is an updated AODE (which is an updated AOD). Since most AODEs (3-bolt starter) & all 4R70W were made to fit the 4.6L (modular family), I think it'll drop in. A few AODEs (2-bolt starter) & all AODs fit the 5.0L (smallblock family). Bobby didn't say what year his Ranger is, so IDK what trans/engine he has now.
