Trucks runs, but no fuel pressure

I decided to change my fuel filter today so I stuck a pressure gauge on the schraeder valve so I could relive the pressure. I decided to check the pressure too while I was at it. When I turned the key forward, there was no pressure. I tried to install it a few more times (and turn the key forward)to make sure I had it on right, and still no pressure. I then decided to cycle the key to build up pressure and then press in on the relief with a screw driver, and it only trickled out. I decided to go ahead and pull the filter off and there was no pressure at all. I put the new filter on and started it up and it ran and idled fine. There never were any problems before, but I would think that with no pressure it would run like crap. Ive replaced the filter on my stang before and even after running it with the inertia switch disconnected and relieving the pressre at the scrader valve, it sprayed more fuel that my truck did. Any ideas why there is no pressure? The gauge works fine since we have just used it on my buddys truck. I would think that even if the gauge didnt depress the schraeder valve and show pressure, it would still spit out when I changed the filter. Any ideas?

Thanks
Brian

if it runs and drives fine, your gauge isnt reading right...unhook the fuel line b4 the filter, turn the key forward and see what it does.

The center piece has fallen out of your gauge's fitting, so it's not opening the shrader valve.

...or the Schraeder valve is clogged from the inside.

Yeah - you ever try to get a replacement O-ring to hold your impossible-to-find replacement center piece in??? It's almost worth buying a whole new gauge.

Even though the gauge wasnt reading right, I figured that there would still be a lot of pressure when I took the old filter off. Ill check the gauge and the schraeder valve. The gauge should be ok since we just used and it worked fine. What fuel pressure do these engines usually have. I have my mustangs set at ~40 with the vac off and it still pours out pretty good after bleeding off the pressure. Oh well, the truck runs fine so I dont plan on messing with anything. I just wondered if you guys had any ideas

Thanks
Brian

Normal fuel pressure should be somewhere in the range of 30-55 psi. Usually around 35-40 pis with a properly functioning regulator.
