i have picked up a miss in my 97 f 150 4.6 135 k lately and with it the engine is pinging under load or with gas petal half way but good when its 3/4 or floored any ideas code readers up hear are 200+ and dealer is booked until next sat?

My guess its plug wires, Same thing has happened to me twice. Replaced with higher quality wires with warranty the first time, problem fixed. second time new wires for free cause of warranty, problem fixed..... just a possiblity

 

The difficulty about isolating a "miss" without the proper tools is that it's always caused by the last thing you fix. Still, by doing the work yourself, your total cost is usually less than the dealer charge and it's a lot of fun playing with the engine.

working on it myself is more fun but would go way better with a scanner. i,m leaning to not a good enough spark or lack off one because of the rich smell at the pipe and i can hear a muffled long farting in the throtle body. now i,m just not sure why the lack of it .......anyone else
