Exclamation rattling dash.......driving me crazy

06 f150 5.4 4x4 2,200 miles super cab

Got a rattle coming from what seems to be the center front of the dash up by the window to center left of the dash. Does not rattle over every bump, it just seems like the bigger ones. It sounds like it is coming right down by the front window, but some times it like it would be on the outside of the window by the black grates on the top of the hood. First time I heard it it sounded like that black vent would be making the noise on the out side. Also sounds like ice rubbing on the glass. Then again it seems to be on the inside down low by the glass, may be even under the dash???.

I was thinking of making some little sand bags and putting them on a area to rule that area out of making the noise.

I know that noises are hard to describe in words but am looking for any help I can get before I start taking the dash apart.

Anybody have some suggestions??

Thanks so much

Josh

My truck made a mettalic rattling on the drive home from picking it up. Turn out to be the metal panel immediately above the OBD II port. Took less than 10 minutes to fix. Only thing I can come up with.

KC-10 FE out...

Is it still under warranty...? Take it to the dealership let them figure things out and then keep taking it back to them if they dont.

It is, but I would like to find this one on my own and solve it myself. If I bring it in I will get the round and what not.

Start taking dash panels off to expose sound more and also do a visual look. Look for mounting brackets around the firewall inside and under the hood.

Dont get me wrong.. I am all about do-it-yourself too.. However why mess with a problem when you dont have to. Maybe the Ford techs at the dealership might know exactly what the problem is and can fix it quicker and back on your way faster. Just my opinion.

I had a rattling problem in an older car back in the 1990's and I got into the dash trying to fix it. When I got done not only did i fix the original problem... I had three more noises coming from the dash I had to fix.

Good luck!
