DPFE sensor

Does a 2002 F150 XLT 4.6L have a DPFE sensor. I had the codes read at Advance to diagnose why the check engine light was on. I think he said the trouble code was PF401 and indicated it was an EGR flow problem. From my experience, that means the DPFE sensor, but when he looked in the computer it didn't list the 2002 having one. I took off the cover and the EGR system looked different. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tim

Look for the sensor along side the brake master cylinder.
It stands on two small pipes and has an electical connector attached.

Actually, it's not. Your pic is of a 5.4's DPFE, the 4.6 is as Bluegrass previously described.

Time to get an updated CD or DVD.....

I have the 4.6L in a 2000, and thats where mine is located, I think the code is P0401 instead of the PF401, I had to replace mine last month, and it cost $163 at the dealership.

If you search on-line parts stores, you can usually find an OEM DPFE for about $45.

Sometimes the exhaust input/output nodes on the new sensors are in the opposite poisition of the old metal sensor. One node is larger than the other to keep things straight, but both hoses will fit on both nodes. Putting the hoses back in the original position on the new sensor (if the new sensor is different) is pretty much the #2 cause of recurring P0401 codes.

Yeah, I heard about that. You can also look at the inside diameter of your rubber hoses and then the bottom of the new DPFE before you install and mark them accordingly. One of the rubber hoses is stretched quite a bit more than the other.

If you need one - do what worland said.

Differential Pressure Feedback Exhaust Sensor
F77Z9J460AB
$103.38

That's the old price at the dealership , there more than that now. Ford eBay stores have them at half the price as well..

Yeah, the total bill was 160 and some change, and that was with a discount, plus gas to and from dealer for about 25 miles each way.

I still got an extra - great deal off ebay - throttle body and all the sensors and hoses everything above the manifold hoses off a crate motor - that one was wrapped up in the plastic too when everything came - $80. New stuff - never run , but it was bolted down , so it had to be sold as used..

You have to keep an eye on that eBay site - guys get those Ford crate motors all the time - well, not all time , you have to watch it . - real part steals for our motors sometimes..
