After replacing the dead battery on my 04, the truck has been dying when I decelerate...after running a diagnostic, the Ford house says its the idle control which is $650 (on a 5.4, you can't simply relpace the sensor)...
If I reset the computer, shouldn't that solve the problem? Again, this problem only began after the battery went dead and had to be replaced...

if so, would reseting by taking off the + terminal do the trick?

well for one, the iac is not $650... And reseting it wouldnt fix it if its bad.

 

right...correction, it's the throttle body that they are saying that they would have to relplace...and it's $650...on a 5.4, the sensor can't be bought as a separate part, so you have to replace the whole throttle body...

I'm just curious if anyone has run into this after replacing the battery...it just seems to coincidental that the idle would be acting up only after the battery has died and been replaced, and be a throttle body problem and not a computer problem...

did you jump start the truck before you put the new battery in. might have cause a votage spike thar wiped out your throttle body sensor.

 

nope...just switched out the batteries...

 

Look in your owners manual, under battery replacement. There should be some idle re-learn procedure in there. I would try that first. I also remember there may be a TSB for this symptom, which of course requires a PCM reflash. But, I would do the Idle re-learn first.

And BTW, never, never, ever disconnect the + terminal of any car battery 1st, berfore disconnecting the - terminal.

 

Why not? I've heard it said both ways, but what's your reason?

 

the throttle body has nothing to do with the IAC valve... They are BSing you... is the cel light on?
