I looked at the Chevy and Toyota truck engines

Seems like Chevy engines have a lot more horsepower over ford trucks.. if youre not towing, are they better daily drivers?

No, Look at the torque , look at reliability . Also look at the residual value. Fords have the best residual value. That's something that gets earned hands on , out in the field.. No one comes close to a Ford..

couldnt agree more
look at the residual values on the 00-03 150s
a '01 supercrew lariat 4x4 with 100k-115k miles $15/16k
you find one with less than 100k miles on it youre gonna be payin $18-20k for it
best part is, you can go pick up a 03 chevy 1500 4door 4x4 with everything & less than 50k miles for about $17/18k

IMO the '07 has closed any gap, more horsepower, gas mileage and of coarse it has more gadgets..but it does have a bigger sticker price

oh on my '03 super crew with under 50K at the time and it a 2 wheel drive I was offered only 13K trade on a boss f-150...

Just let me start out with the fact that I am a FORD man. Nothing else.
That said, as far as in michigan, I would have to disagree on the resale values. Like I said, this is in Michigan.
I recently sold my 02 f 150 supercrew. I had 55k miles. 4x4 xlt. I couldn't get any takers at 15,000 bucks. Howerver I did have a used car guy that came up from Ohio give me $14,500. I started out trying to get around $17,500. Just couldn't get it. The guy said he always comes up here and buys them to take back to sell.
I think one of the problems here is so many folks work for the big three and get A plan pricing. At least thats what he said.
Just had to post on this subject. My truck was mint. It really pissed me off that I couldn't get more.

You should of sold it on eBay - I seen a 98 go for 12,000 - It had low miles and it was loaded , but still 12,000 for a 98? That's great!!

Ford is the number one seller- but for how much longer? We have the lowest horsepower compared to everyone else's new trucks. Are biggest engine has less hp and tq then the "classic" 5.3L chevy (there mid grade truck). Toyota is coming out with there bigger engine. Eveyone is making improvements Ford is still surviving off of there update from 04. Its been three years later and everyone has caught up. When Ford updates then they will be on top again but until then the only reason Ford is still number one is the loyalist. They won't buy anything but a Ford.
Sure everyone has problems with one thing or another (hmmm... can't change my own spark plugs for fear of them breaking off).
All the new manufactures have 5 speed transmissions were still at 4. "Now I guess we can tow more and look better and have a sturdier chassis also better resale value" But how long is that going to hold out its a game of leap frog and everyone has jumped us.

ford is going through a phase right now where every couple of years they come out with a redesign. theyre doing this so they can keep their image fresh and keep bettering their products. dont know when the f150 is getting a redesign but the new mustang is already in the books for '08 or '10.

Ford should think about efficiency in terms of gas mileage instead of a sh*t load of ponies...yes, the trucks can use a few more HP, but more importantly, mush more mpg...That's what the majority of consumers want...

engines that make majority of their power at the normal driving RPM dont get good gas mileage. just basic mechanical engine physics on the amount of fuel it takes to make HP. so yeh while chevy dodge and toyota and nissan have decent gas milage that is only because majority of their power is made about 3,000 rpm. while fords is below 3,000 rpm. meaning is best for towing and hauling which also means its pumping alot of fuel to make that power below 3,000 rpm where its power range is.

Actually the Chevy 1500, Toyota Tundra and Tacoma all have better residual value than the F150. Call any lease company and they can give you the residual values for various models.

I suspect residual value is based on msrp. In the real world the F150 and Chevy 1500 would both do better due to heavily discounted new prices.

Exclamation

It all comes down to taking care of your vehicle, and knowing how to sell it when it comes time.

My 2002 Ranger Edge truck was purchased brand new, OTD for $18,900.

EXACTLY three years later I sold it private party for $13,500.

My Ex GF bought a 2002 Toyota Double Cab Tacoma (The supercrew, if you will) and it ended up running her $27,000~ after it was all said and done, new.

She sold hers after a little over 2 years, for $16,000.

Do the math. So the Toyota had better "residual" value, but who lost more money?

And to think her mom told her "No Ford Ranger, I want the Tacoma so you can sell it and get your money back."

Poor girl lost TWICE as much money as me in LESS time!

ford ftw
