Question changing plugs on 2000 5.4 efi

can someone tell me if the fuel rail on this engine has to come off to remove the coil packs? if so do the injectors come out with it?

Yes, it is easier to remove the fuel rail, at least on the drivers side.

I don't understand why. I hear that people are removing it on both 4.6 and 5.4 engines. I did my plugs on my 4.6 without removing it. I did however unplug the injector's electrical connector but that's it. They weren't that had to do that I felt the fuel rail was in the way. I also have heard if you do disconnect the fuel rail from the injector you will need to replace the O-rings. From my experience I have to say no it can be done without removal.

Yeah , number 7 is a biatch if you don't - I always flip up the driver side on the manifold.

I must have done something different. What are the plugs in relation to numbers anyway?

So I also had the plug #3 issue with my 4.6 in my 02 at 47K. I did not replace the cop, after I replaced the plugs I dove it another 9K before I traded it in with no more problems. I'm still not sure why you guys needed to move the fuel rail to do the plugs in yours. After I disconnected the fuel injector I had enough room but I may have used a swivel when I did it.

This was the 4.6 I did them on not a 5.4. I did get a 5.4 on my new truck though. Funny I only hand tightened them not knowing anything about the fact the the pulgs shot out. I guess I got lucky
