too much oil and dirt? They dont know what they are talking about. Nothing is going to get through that filter, they are reusable, just clean it and you will be good.

What?

Just go to your local auto parts store and pick up a K&n filter recharger @ $10.00. Follow insrtuctions and you can reuse and reuse. Bets filter on the market!

It's not so much that it'll get into the engine (which it will, regardless), a more pertinent problem is dirt/oil getting onto the heated wire of the mass air sensor and causing driveability problems. I gave up on K&N filters for this reason (amongst other reasons).

No problems here with the K&N, some like, some don't! I had an issue with the foam gasket (base) of the filter, glue was crap. They just sent me a new filter, great to deal with. As far as the old filter, I cleaned it twice or more, followed procedure and thaught I over oiled? nope. The MAF sensor is brand new looking. I say buy one just to never have to worry about changing them all the time, mpg's? probably some saved and maybe a hair more hp's. There is a reason all aftermarket filters and systems have copied, think about it now.
