I know the guys that have higher milage will chime it, but if it's running good now and you take care of it. The truck will do you good for probably another 100k or more. From what I've read their are a few people that have 300k on the stock engine without much trouble.

I agree, besides 3 grand aint bad for that truck even if it had some issues. Give it a good look and take it and run, sounds like a good gig to me.

Wanna sell it? There bidding on a 98 4x4 right now on eBay - nothing special , looks clean . It was up to $7500 last time I looked.

I have a 98 5.4L 4X4 w/ 201,000 miles. Doesn't leak and I know it doesn't burn oil , never had to add between oil changes. Compresion checked last spring and it's right there, it's just been the best truck I ever owned.

Great buy if it was taken care of ..

na I will keep it for a while but here are some pics! I will be getting it from my step dad and he is a ford mechanic. so the truck is great and no leaks and runs like new! He changes all the fluids, new headlights, brakes and more to it!

That sounds like a pretty good price to me. I recently picked up a 2001 SC 4x4 with 195k miles on it for $5,000. I did a few minor things to get it up to snuff and its darn near perfect now.
Also have a 97 2 wheel drive with 235k miles. Runs great.
Do be overly observant of things. Hows the trucks history? How many owners, do a title check to look for accidents. hows the oil look? I've heard of people putting a real heavy weight oil in to quite the engine knocks down.
If everythings looking good, thats a real good price. At least up here in Mich.

If it has a 4.6, it may have an 8.8" rear-end. It's a great diff, but the bearings don't seem to last that long. My 97 needed new carrier and pinion bearings at 200,000 miles. Parts aren't that expensive, but labor can be. I did mine myself for about $100.

I know , I had an IROC - last year they made them, think it was 90..Any way , you couldn't get anywhere with snow on the ground. Go from Park to Drive, let off the brake and your still in the same spot - tires spinning while your idleing lol.

The truck handles great in the snow , still using my stock u joints as well - never a prob with 4WD . Salt starting to get to mine pretty good tho, rusting a little on inside of the bed behind the rear tires.

It's fun in the winter , the 5.4L makes for the most of that lol..

Looks an awful lot like mine also...

I've got the same thing (a '98 with 220,000 on the clock), and aside from an occasional misfire, which I believe I narrowed down to getting a bad new plug wire, she runs great. I bought mine for $4k with 205,000 miles, but I also got a rebuilt 5.4 to go in her when this 4.6 decides it's had enough... Go for it, take care of it, and you'll get 300,000 out of it easily...
