95' 5.8 buckin like mule , egr ? PLEASE HELP!
95-5.8
Truck was running poorly and I found a bad plug wire . Check engine has been on a while but it still ran well . The past week has been terrible. Anyway new wires , plugs, cap, rotor . ol truck has 175,000 on it and had no idea about those components , so replaced them . Didn't help a thing , could be even worse!! 34 mile round trip cost one tank of fuel, gauge drops like a rock !! trucks bucks and runs flat .
Autozone came up with a 332 code, saying its a stored memory code. " EGR opening not detected " . they told me that I could try cleaning the one on there now and it may or may not work . I live a distance from there so I brought home a new one $ 112. !! What concerns me is the guy had a terrible time trying to get his computer in the store to give him information . It would not even recognize a 95 " . He had to use 93" still no luck , after 10 minutes he went to a haynes code book .
With the truck at idle , when I take a small screwdrive and push up on the valve through the slot , it reacts, it stubles a little . It does pull out without dying .
Sorry for rambling on here , I have rechecked firing order, timing , all plugs are getting fire at the end of the wire. I hate to use this egr waste the money if not needed . This is my daily driver and I can't afford to keep dumping fuel in It ! Thank you

Take that $112 POS back & stay OUT of the zone! You only need a paperclip to pull EEC-IV codes, and there's nothing wrong with your EGR. NEVER replace a part just because it happens to be mentioned in a code definition.
With the engine running, pull the red vacuum line of your FPR & check for gas. If there's even the ODOR of gas, replace the FPR.
Do you have 2 tubes coming out of your air filter cover, or just 1 that goes to a Y?
