pullin the motor
I'm surprised I couldn't find this answer on a search, so here it is:
I'm pullin a 5.4 and trans out of a 03 f150. Will it fit out through the hood? what method do you guys use when all you have is a cherry picker?
When I worked at the dealer, I pulled the cab off and it was pretty easy after that. I'm working with a crew cab now so I don't we'll be able to just pick it up.
What methods have you guys used?

I myself would take the hood right off, rad, condenser, grille, whatever can go and be a road block. Having said that, you'd probably get away with keeping the tranny on, if 4x4, take the transfer case off. I'd probably rip the intake off just to give more room too. What's going on that you're ripping the heart out?

Is your friend the one repoing the vehicle? If not I'm sure they'll come asking for the motor back. You might want to be carefull about parting it out before you are 100% sure that the bank who is repoing the vehicle is satisfied with the vehicle they recieve. I don't know how much you, or your friend know about the repo business. The only reason I know a little about it is because my mother worked for a repo company for almost 10 years.

To remove the 5.4 you will need to remove the following.
You can get a slick sling from Ford or use a chain. Hook it to the Block between one of the Upper Bell Housing holes, on the engine, and one of the holes that the Alternator mounts too.
Doug
- Hood
- Air Intake
- Split it from the Tranny
- Radiator and Fan Assembly
- Water Pump Pulley
- Loosen the Mounts for the Condenser
- Dampener Pulley
- Alternator
- Power Steering Pump
- Air Conditioner Compresser
- Disconnect the Engine Electical Connectors at the Bulkhead
